Away Day
No Pep, No Win. City Are Top Of The League And Still Got Pecked By The Seagulls.

Manchester City 0-1 Brighton | Premier League | 31 October 2026 | Etihad Stadium, 3pm
Two trips to the Etihad in four days, so we did the sensible thing and didn't do the M6 twice. Stayed up here between games, same as the players did. Wednesday we lost a shootout 4-3 after a 2-2 that we led twice, Yalcouyé on thirty, Rutter ninety seconds into the second half, Rulli saving two penalties including Ayari's and Dunk's. Saturday, those same two decided it.
Eleven Minutes. Dunk Didn't Wait.
Free-kick, taken quick before anybody in sky blue had finished pointing. Dunk released Diego Gómez down the right, Matheus Nunes didn't cut the low cross out, it bounced off Maxim De Cuyper's ankles, and Yasin Ayari poked it past Gianluigi Donnarumma from a yard.
0-1
That was our first meaningful attack of the afternoon. It was also, more or less, our last. Three minutes after the break Ayari picked out De Cuyper unmarked and he met the bobble first time and put it over the bar, and from then on it was backs, heads and Bart.
Seven Saves And A Perfect Ten
City had 63% of it and 21 shots to our seven, 1.92 xG to our 1.00. Verbruggen made seven saves, six of them inside his own box, tipped a ferocious Ndiaye effort onto the post, got down to his right to a Nunes rocket, and denied Doku from close range at the death. Sofascore gave him a ten. He'll have to buy his own breakfast anyway.
The other numbers I liked: 127 sprints to 115, 120.2km covered to 114.4. We outran the richest squad in football at their own place.
About That Crisis
Let’s be honest, nobody’s going down. Well, apart from possibly Palace. City might be another matter, but that’s got nothing to do with Saturday’s football and everything to do with the small matter of their accounts. The independent panel still hasn’t delivered its verdict, so until then, City remain top of the league on goal difference. Whether they stay there is another question entirely.
And this was the first time City have ever been beaten by us at the Etihad. First visiting side to keep a league clean sheet there since Spurs in August 2025. Our sixth clean sheet of the season, more than anyone.
The Table, Briefly
Third, 19 points, two behind City and Arsenal. Five wins in the last six. Hürzeler talked about belief spreading, and being brilliant at the basics. Verbruggen said it's way too early to talk about titles, which is exactly what someone in a title race says.
Final Thought
Rang Jane from the Zip at full time (AKA Joanne Froggatt of Mobland fame).
Back in September, she summed up an entire half in six words: "It ain't no Villa game." She was right.
Saturday was a different story. Villa beat City last week, we beat City this week, and the Etihad is fast becoming the north's most accommodating host.
Jane's full-time verdict? "Now THAT'S a Villa game." Five words. She's getting more efficient. By Getafe, we'll be down to a raised eyebrow and a glass of red. Possibly her third bottle.
We're nothing to do with the club, of course. They've got Bart. We've got Jane, a laminated seating plan and a window seat nobody else dares sit in.
Take care of yourselves. And each other. Especially Bart, who hasn't conceded since roughly the invention of the wheel.
